Overview:
Lisa gives a dynamic and inspiring PowerPoint presentation based on The Forgotten Five series, and also touches on The Unwanteds books and Clarice the Brave. In her presentations, she includes writing tips and side stories about what it’s like to be an author. She answers many frequently asked questions and teaches about editing/revisions, building a setting, research, and more. Lisa discusses how she got the idea for the Unwanteds series and how writers come up with ideas for stories. Her presentation is geared toward students in grades 3-8, but high schoolers and adults will find it interesting too. She loves taking questions at the end about writing or her personal life (or anything, really). The presentation generally lasts about 30 minutes plus 10-15 minutes for questions.

Lisa McMann is the author of more than two dozen bestselling and award-winning books for children and young adults, including The Unwanteds series which has sold millions of copies in North America and the New York Times bestselling The Forgotten Five: Map of Flames, the first in a supernatural series. Her whole family works in the creative arts industry—husband Matt McMann is the writer of an upcoming monster mystery series for middle graders (Monsterious, coming from Putnam/Penguin Random House in 2023), son Kilian McMann is a professional artist who designed her presentation slides and several other art pieces for Lisa’s books, and daughter Kennedy McMann is an actor who plays Nancy Drew on the CW hit series by the same name. Lisa and Matt live in Tempe, Arizona, but also spend ample time in Sacramento, California, and Vancouver, British Columbia.

"Lisa McMann is simply delightful!! She visited our school virtually and the kids loved her! Even though school was already out and we were well into summer vacation, we had no problem drawing a very large crowd of students, parents, and teachers. Lisa was so engaging, speaking at exactly to the right level for our kids (mostly middle schoolers), sharing stories about her writing process, and even including images of her son's artwork. That was especially interesting to the budding artists in the crowd. Her Q&A was fun and informative, answering many numerous questions across a range of subjects. Again, her insights and tips on how to write, or rather how she writes, were very valuable to our young authors. I can't wait to have Lisa back to our school, hopefully in person next time."

"I have had Lisa McMann visit my school three times. Lisa is a skilled presenter. She easily holds the attention of students and engages with them in such a meaningful way. Her presentations have allowed my students to understand her writing process and gives them the encouragement they need to keep developing their own creative writing skills. I highly recommend a visit from Lisa to any school or library looking for an author who will not only share their passion for writing but will also ignite a love for reading in children.”
Mary Jo Staal, Elementary Librarian, Hudsonville Christian School, Hudsonville, Michigan

"Lisa McMann is a dynamic, well-spoken, and creative presenter. Her school visits are always engaging. She is able to relate to the students and talk about things that are relevant to them. She does a wonderful job of explaining how and why she started the 'Unwanteds' series. I love that she projects a slideshow to go with her presentation; it keeps the kids interested and gives them a visual of what she is talking about. At one point in her presentation she showed a video clip of her book series and it is really motivating to the kids to see. She leaves time to answer questions at the end and the kids love that. Her school visits are always exciting and fun. Any school would be lucky to have Mrs. McMann visit. She is positive, funny, and kind. I have seen many authors present, but she is by far the best.”
Dr. Jeanne Boiarsky, 4th Grade Teacher, Las Sendas Elementary School, Mesa, Arizona
